Visita Medellin

On Thursday, 12 December 2019, EAFIT University hosted a visit by colleagues from the University of Cagliari (UNICA) from Italy and the University Valery Montpellier (UPVM) from France. The meeting had the objective of reviewing the design of 2 new courses being developed for EAFIT’s Master in Earth Sciences in the framework of the STOREM project, as well as to update the project progress and identify capacity building needs. Thanks to financing from the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and with the support of the 2 universities from Italy and France, the project aims to implement new Master’s curricula on the subject of sustainable tourism and environmental management at 5 higher education institutes in the Caribbean: EAFIT and UniMagdalena (Colombia), UCI and UNA (Costa Rica), and UWI (Barbados). During the visit by the European colleagues, a review was carried out on the design, objectives, teaching methods, learning outcomes and student profiles of the 2 new courses at EAFIT which will be focused on the connections between watersheds and coasts as well as beach tourism. Furthermore, strategies were discussed to identify scholarships for vulnerable populations in Colombia such as displaced persons, victims of violence, refugees and marginalized populations.
