Université Paul Valery Montpellier (FRANCE)
The University Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 (UPVM) is located in the south of France and was founded in the 13th century, making it one of the oldest universities in Europe. Its Department of Geography and Planning runs a successful Master’s Program in Tourism and Territorial Sustainable Development since 2004 which focuses on aspects of strategic planning. The objective of this Master’s degree is to train tourism development professionals that are autonomous, responsible and able to implement strategies for the transport and reception of tourists, and to organize the promotion of places of interest, while maintaining satisfactory conditions for local stakeholders. In STOREM, UPVM contributes its knowledge and experience to the design of new Master’s programs, courses and learning material developed by the project, and also implements capacity building activities as part of Development Work Package. UPVM also leads the Preparation Work Package which assesses the environmental threats, issues and policies, current training paths and curricula in resource management and sustainability, and training needs in Barbados, Costa Rica and Colombia, the last of which includes a focus on an IDP involvement strategy.
